Sermon Passage: Matthew 1:18-25
Sermon Title: Through the Eyes of Joseph: Faithful Obedience
Sermon Big Idea:
God calls his people to see rightly through spiritually faithful eyes. When we do, we recognize Jesus for who he truly is, see our need for a Savior, and respond with obedient faith. This sight produces a joy that transcends circumstances and helps us embrace the Christ of Christmas rather than merely its cultural celebration.
Sermon Points:
Joseph saw with spiritually faithful eyes (Matt 1:18–19)
Joseph saw Jesus as divinely conceived (Matt 1:20)

Joseph faced circumstances that could have led to fear, deep hurt, or resentment. How did Joseph’s spiritual commitments inform his response, and where in this passage do you see those commitments expressed (Matt 1:18–19; Rom 12:17–21; Col 3:13)?
Joseph trusted God’s revelation about Jesus’ divine conception rather than his own understanding. Where are you tempted to rely on human reasoning instead of trusting what God has revealed in his word (Matt 1:20; Prov 3:5–6)?
Jesus is revealed as the Savior of his people from their sins. How does a person become “his people,” and how does that inform our thinking about our own salvation and the salvation of others (Matt 1:21; Luke 19:10; John 1:12; John 10:27; Eph 2:1–3)?
Joseph obeyed immediately and completely after hearing God’s instruction. What specific steps of obedience is God calling you to take that seem difficult or challenging to obey (Matt 1:24–25; John 14:15; Luke 11:27–28)?
